Geography

The mountain is located in the southern reaches of the Central Highlands in the Ratnapura District and Nuwara Eliya district of the Sabaragamuwa Province and Central Province —lying about 40 km northeast of the city of Ratnapura and 32 km southwest of the city of Hatton. The surrounding region is largely forested hills, with no mountain of comparable size nearby. The region along the mountain is a wildlife reserve, housing many species varying from elephants to leopards, and including many endemic species.

Adam's Peak is important as a watershed. The districts to the south and the east of Sri Pada yield precious stones—emeralds, rubies and sapphires, for which the island has been famous, and which earned for its ancient name of Ratnadvipa.

Pidurutalagala
Peak in Sri Lanka

Pidurutalagala or Mount Pedro in English, is an ultra prominent peak, and the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, at 2,524 m (8,281 ft). Mount Pedro is located close to the city of Nuwara Eliya, and is easily visible from most areas of the Central Province. It is situated North-North-East from the town of Nuwara Eliya.

Kirigalpotta

Kirigalpotta is the 2nd tallest mountain in Sri Lanka at 2,388 m (7,835 ft) above mean sea level, and is also the highest mountain in the country whose summit is accessible to the general public (the highest point, Pidurutalagala, is occupied by a military base and off-limits to the public). The peak is situated near the city of Nuwara Eliya, within the Nuwara Eliya District. Only one 7 km (4 mi) hiking trail provides access to the mountain's summit via the Horton Plains National Park, although the trail is not very popular.

Thotupola Kanda

Thotupola Kanda, also sometimes referred as the Thotupola Peak or Thotupola Mountain, is the third highest mountain is Sri Lanka situated in Nuwara Eliya district 2,357 m (7,733 ft) above mean sea level. Mountain is placed within the Horton Plains National Park. About two kilometers long trail is there to the top of the mountain that starts few metres away from the Pattipola entrance to the Horton Plains National Park. Most part of the mountain surface is covered with shrubs adapted to the cool and windy climate of Horton Plains National Park. Strobilanthes,Osbeckia and Rhodomyrtus species grown as shrubs are common among them.

Bible Rock

Bible Rock (Batalegala in Sinhala language) is a mountain near Aranayake in Kegalle District in central Sri Lanka. It is known as the "Bible Rock" as its surface resembles a book/bible. Due to its prominent flat top surface, it resembles the more famous Sigiriya citadel located more north of it.

Rassagala

Rassagala, commonly Rajagala(The Monarch's Rock) or Rajagalathenna, is a rugged and heavily forested mountain situated 1,038 feet (316 m) above sea level, in a sparsely populated part of Eastern Province, Sri Lanka which has an important archaeological value. The Rajagala archaeological site is only second to the Mihintale monastery in Anuradhapura and it spreads over 1,600 acres (650 ha; 2.5 sq mi), It consists more than 600 prehistoric ruins, monuments and artifacts, and nearly 100 of them are ancient Stupas.

Hakgala Mountain is situated in the Nuwara Eliya district of Sri Lanka at 2,169 m (7,116 ft) above mean sea level, most parts of the mountain are covered with forest belonging to Hakgala Strict Nature Reserve. Hakgala Botanical Garden is situated on the northeastern slope of the Hakgala Mountain. The southwestern side of the mountain has a wet climate compared to northeastern slope since southwestern part faces directly to southwest Monsoon.

Lakegala

Lakegala mountain is situated in Sri Lanka about 175 kilometres (109 mi) away from the capital Colombo. This is the place where King Ravana lifted his historical aeroplane called Dhandu Monara according to a popular legend. This mountain is situated in Meemure village.
