The largest mobile phone provider is Dialog , with around 7 million subscribers. Mobitel, owned by Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) , is the second largest provider with 4.2 million subscribers. Etisalat has 4 million users. The two smallest providers are Airtel and Hutch , with 2.5 and 0.8 million subscribers, respectively.

Buying SIM Card at the Airport

If — like most visitors — you arrive into the country at Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo, buying a SIM card will be extremely simple. As you exit the baggage reclaim area, you’ll encounter a row of money changers followed by a row of cell company vendors, as well as several ATMs that will take international cards.
